Detailed Analysis of Fringe Field Effects in the Large Hadron Collider
AbstractWe study single particle dynamics of the LHC in the map picture with
emphasis on fringe field effects. Using the results of our fringe
field map computation methods, it is rather easy to take into account
in a rigorous way the influence of fringe fields. As indicators of the
nonlinear dynamics we use tune footprints, tune shifts, resonance
strengths and resonance webs. A total of 10 situations are studied,
from the simple to the more complex. Comparisons are presented which
are meant to clarify topics like: is the exact shape of fringe fields
important, relative importance of individual multipole components in
the fringe fields, and relative importance of fringe fields with
respect to body errors.
